Mourne Mountains, NI

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to construct a new telecommunications site within the Mourne Mountain range in Northern Ireland presented both breathtaking scenery and exceptional technical challenge. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the project demanded a highly sensitive, carefully controlled approach to meet strict planning, environmental, and access requirements.

Ancore brought more than 30 years of experience delivering complex telecommunications infrastructure in remote and demanding environments, including extensive work across the Scottish Highlands. When the opportunity arose to deliver a local build of this scale and sensitivity, our team was uniquely positioned, and highly motivated, to apply that expertise.

Access to the mountain site was severely restricted, with the location reachable only by ATV or helicopter. Detailed planning and coordination were essential to safely mobilise materials, plant, and personnel while minimising environmental impact and protecting the surrounding landscape. In total, the project required 170 helicopter lifts, all carefully managed to maintain safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance.

Ancore successfully delivered the full civil engineering build package, including cut-and-fill operations, reinforced concrete foundation construction, associated groundworks, and the installation of perimeter fencing. Every phase was executed with precision, ensuring the site was completed to exacting standards and handed over fully prepared for the structural tower installation.

Drawing on our experience in remote-access construction, Ancore also provided specialist access solutions to support the subsequent tower build and rigging operations. This integrated approach ensured the project was delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards, demonstrating Ancore’s capability to deliver critical telecommunications infrastructure in some of the most challenging and sensitive environments imaginable.
